I do apologise to our writers, and most of all our readers.Disappearing carelessly is never a way to treat your readers, no matter the justification.

It should be noted that not all the delay was due to poor planning or procrastination. Based on feedback I decided to slow down production to allow for more authors to generate more content.

Balancing content with production is a tough one that all publications struggle with. Is a week worth one more article? Will you gain more readers if you spend another two days going back and forth on the style of the middle third paragraph? At what point do you drop out of people’s routines and are forgotten?

All publications struggle with this. I think a lot of the problems currently with our Daily newspapers is they are locked into the on-your-door-step-by-sunrise mentality. Monday editions in particular have become thin. Why not mix it up? Does the sports section have to come out with the lifestyle section?

The Baird’s Tale will be adapting a different perspective angle on production schedules. We will print when we have something worth reading.

I think readers care much more about quality than regularity. The number of times I’ve mindlessly hit the Walrus’s website frustrated scanning the same month headlines for something new, only to buy the latest edition when it comes out and devour it in a night. Good content catches and retains the eye.

I would rather leave readers hungry for more, eager to come back when they see me again, then overstuffed and underfed intellectually.

As a result you will not be able to set your watch or calendar by The Baird’s Tale. You will be able to find compelling stories, challenging ideas and new perspectives next time you run into us on the internet.

James R.
