The average age of women being treating for acne is now 30 years of age while 50% of us all will or have suffered acne at some point in our adult life.

What Is Adult Acne

Adult
acne presents with the same symptoms as teenage acne, blackheads, pustules,
redness inflammation and skin sensitivity. The cause of adult acne is too much sebum (excess oil in the
skin), this excess oil causes blockages in the pores which then traps dead skin
cells, it is these dead skin cells that create a plug which blocks the pores
and causes blackheads. So be
reassured blackheads are not dirt on your skin they are blocked pores mixes
with bacteria caused by the excess oil, which turn black when exposed to the
air. This bacteria remains
harmless until the pore becomes inflamed and blocked leading to the hair
follicle bursting. Both are the most common symptoms of acne.

Why Why Why???

There are
lots of explanatory theories about the high levels of adult acne. Chinese medicines believe it can be
explained by internal heat and dampness, to which they have lots of herbal
remedies. Modern doctors and
dermatologist place blame with the stress levels we face in todays society.

What Can We Do?

Whether
food and our daily diet can help is still a popularity-debated topic however
there is some evidence to say that certain food can fight acne. Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, which
helps to regulate the acne responsible hormones. Red peppers can reduce inflammation whereas omega 3 is the
best nutrient to help reduce the appearance of spots and finally vitamin A will
help the overall complexion.

In terms
of treating acne with aromatherapy I have two powerful tricks, which can
help. Firstly treat your spots
with Organic Tea tree essential oil.
Use neat tea tree on a cotton bud and dab onto each pustule. The tea tree is a powerful anti
bacterial and anti septic tool and it will kill the bacterial causing the spot
but it will prevent spreading or even more pustule appearing. Be careful that your tea tree is fresh
and stored in a dark place as if the tea tree is off - opened too long it will
oxidize and cause the opposite effect - irritation. The second aromatherapy acne treatment I suggest is a rose
water spritzer. Regularly spritz
your skin with this floral water to reduce inflammation and redness and to help
rebuild your skin cell barrier to prevent more acne developing.

Jasmine essential oil is the oil of marriage,
