Organic cotton is rapidly becoming commonplace in the world of clothing, so let me tell you a little about why it matters.

Why Organic Cotton?

The
statistics associated with cotton production are scary, here are just a
few. Cotton production occupies
just 2.5% of agricultural land areas however it uses 7% of the world’s annual
pesticides and 16% of the insecticides.
The farmers using these poisons are putting both their families and
their own lives at risk.

These
farmers are also risking their entire livelihood due to the expense of
genetically modified technology; the type of farming involved and the
unreliable nature of their business as there is no guarantee of a good return
on their crop. On the other hand
small scale organic farming is carried out on the basis of affordable seeds and
relies on 80% rain water to feed their crop eliminating the use of fertilizers,
pesticides and other damaging materials.

The Benefits of Organic Cotton

Gives
power to farmers and farming communities not GM companies

Organic cotton manufactures never
use GM seed. The small-scale organic cotton farmers that the Soil
Association supports farm only in an environmentally safe manner and in a
sustainable way.

Eliminates hazardous pesticides
.
Organic farmers have proven that cotton can be grown without harmful synthetic
pesticides therefore not subjecting their land or health to the toxins
associated with mast cotton farming.

Helps
Farmers Feed Their Families

Organic
farmers have the ability to grow crops on their healthy soil in order to feed
their families.

Saves
Precious Water

Organic
practices keep soils healthy so the soil can hold water better and therefore
become more resilient to drought conditions.

Combats
Climate Change

Less
energy is used during organic farming and organic soils store more carbon
therefore removing CO2 from the atmosphere.

Where to get your organic cotton...

There is more and more suppliers
of organic cotton now, some of which are listed at www.cottonedon.org.

We love
People tree for their organic love, beliefs and of course their fashion.

Get
Cottoned on!!

When you emotional exhaustion and you need
