Frustrated by back pain and sciatica? Read on to learn more...
This guide was created as a simple go-to when you are suffering from Sciatica. There may be some techniques that work better than others for different people. That is fine and expected as everybody is different; although we all do have low backs and Sciatic nerves, everybody moves in different ways which can cause different problems that will be solved by different exercises and tips
So with that in mind, it would be my advice to try one of these techniques for 3 days at a time to see how your body responds. Once your body responds well to an exercise, you can return to this particular technique, using it on a daily basis. Some of the exercises are strength based, so it will take time for your body to adapt and build new muscle in new areas. Just be patient.
As always if you don’t know how to do something or need help, then just contact us at the centre and we can talk you through everything.
All of the techniques discussed in the guide are natural, safe and easily accessible. However, if any of these techniques make anything worse, stop doing it and contact us and we can tailor an approach suited to you

Your Name Goes Here
I have always had three deep passions 1. Building things 2. A love of the human body and it's unique ability to heal. 3. A love of learning about Technology and it was these three loves that ultimately led me to Chiropractic that I felt I could best blend these three.
After many years of seeing patients, I have come to the realisation that all of us can feel much better than we currently do.
When you experience an injury, unresolved pain, a health challenge or you just want an actively perform better it can be frustrating trying to understand who you should see.
This is why I created Life Balance Chiropractic. A world class team of recommended chiropractors to help families make the best decision about what to do next for their health and quality of life.
In fact, relief from sciatica is accessible to every single one of us – the starting point is this guide!
I have practiced chiropractic for nearly 10 years and people are needlessly suffering and this is preventable and unacceptable.
We developed this guide for you the sciatica suffers, who feel like like hostages in their own body, find freedom & relief with tips so simple, they can be done from the comfort of your own home!
1. PAIN MEDICATIONS: I am not anti-pain medication to control pain BUT:
If you are doing things that are typically painful without the medication, you can be doing MORE damage without knowing it as the medication is masking the pain. Depending on the medication to function is dangerous in this regard so please be
cautious with overdoing it while on pain medications so you do not do more damage than good.
2. BRACE, DEVICE or WRAP: I am not against these for helping with pain but:
IF you are dependent on them to maintain stability and avoid pain, this can cause overall muscle weakness and further the issue and cause you to depend on the brace or device than you should, which can lead to further damage as muscles, and lose their ability to support you as they should, thus causing more of a dependence.
3. EXERCISES: As a Chiro I am not against exercises →I love exercises, But: If exercises aggravate or stress the sciatic nerve, you are probably doing the wrong exercise! Most people try to stretch out their buttocks or hamstring on the painful side, thinking they need to “pull out” the pain and stretch it out. But, if you think of it as an irritated tissue (nerve) and by stretching or aggravating it further, does it make sense that you can be irritating it further?

1. KEEP A PAIN JOURNAL
When pain strikes, write down your activities, positions and things you have done over the past 1-2 hours. This will give you an idea of what may be triggering your symptoms. Could be positional related--ie. Brushing teeth, bending into dishwasher,
sitting for more than 10 seconds etc or it could be activity related such as walking, lifting, bending to pick things up etc...A Reason to journal is to get a possible understanding of what is triggering your symptoms.
You can email us at i[email protected] to request your free pain journal. just use subject line [request pain journal]
2. BE CAREFUL WITH SHOEWARE
Avoid hard-soled flat shoes that do not offer support or absorb resistance well.
The more support and cushion under your heel the better as this will absorb your weight as your heel strikes the ground and ease the tension and weight that runs up your leg into your hip and low back area, allowing some relief of pressure where nerve is being compromised.
3. AVOID BENDING FROM THE LOW BACK
A simple, yet very effective way to avoid straining the low back is this: When having to bend forward, whether brushing teeth, picking items off a low shelf or floor, loading or unloading dishwasher/washer/dryer etc/ Place one foot in front of the other, about shoulder width apart and bend. This causes your bending to take place at the hips, using the large buttock and hip muscles instead of the low back muscles. This gives some relief, by not avoiding a compression of the low back joints and possible compression of sciatic nerve.

• AVOID PAINFUL MOVEMENTS / POSITIONS
I KNOW it can be nearly impossible to find a position of comfort, BUT, when you understand that pain breeds compensations and MORE pain, you start to realize if I can find a position that is comfortable (even if for 15-20 seconds) and then shift to find another comfortable position → You will reap the benefits of the body relaxing, tension easing and less pain with activities.
• STRETCH THE NON-INVOLED SIDE
This is foreign to MOST of my clients, but if you think about it, irritating an
aggravated nerve by stretching it, will cause further irritation. try avoiding
exercises too the bad side, and when walking, shorten up your step length to avoid unnecessary pull on sciatic nerve.
• FIND A SKILLED PRACTIONER
Should be a no brainer but finding someone skilled in Sciatica relief is critical and the sooner, the better! IF needed email us or choose which option is best for you to the left and let’s get you started in the right direction ?
• STAY HYDRATED
Stay hydrated. Your body needs water to fight inflammation, remain healthy and function optimally. most people do not drink enough water and suffer the consequences for it. Please drink more water than you think you need and this will help you get healthy, move better and fight off inflammation more effectively.

Step one in the recovery from ANY sciatica pain is to actually get to the true, underlying root cause of the sciatica. Without knowing what’s going wrong it’s almost impossible to stop it long term. Getting to the “true, underlying, root cause of sciatica” is something that a Chiropractor works to do... and it’s a shame that some people still don’t know how easy it is to “self-refer” to a Chiropractor for help with sciatica. No referral from a GP is needed… How easy? Well, there’s no one to ask, no referral needed, no long forms to sign, no payment agreements and there’s no obligation to go ahead with any Chiropractic care after an initial consultation which will reveal your “diagnosis” – i.e. the, what’s going wrong to cause your pain in the first place!
Chiropractic principles are simple yet effective. The aim is to remove stress
from the body in order to allow the body to function as it was intended. Often pain is just a warning sign that something isn’t working properly; the tip of the iceberg. When patients present with sciatic pain they often are confused as to why we look to the
spine. Well the reason is that the nerve stems from the base of the spine and pressure can be put on it via a disc, muscle or joint and that is where we need to start. If we start working on the leg but there is pressure on the nerve from further up well then the problem keeps coming back.
The Chiropractors job is to:
1. Find the root cause of the issue to prevent it from coming back.
2. Inform you what exactly is happening by way of a diagnosis.
3. Outline treatment options and make a plan to get rid of the problem.
4. Make sure that it is corrected long term so that you can become healthier, more active and mobile.
achieve your goals and prevent reoccurrence.
Often people are unsure who they should see which is why we created some options for you on the left. Just click one which option works best for you or get in touch with one of our team members and we will be in touch shortly to help you.
