The Metta meditation in Buddhism repeats the phrase, "May all beings be well." Seek the warmth inside you to wish others well. When you feel it, start by imagining ​one of your allies being well, followed by one of your opponents being well, and end by trying to picture yourself as healthy, happy, and well. Add on a minute of peaceful silence.

As you prepare to fill out your ballot or go to a polling place: God of life, I give you thanks for this awesome responsibility called voting. Thank you for all those who help make elections possible, secure, and safe. ​Bless me, O God, as I fill out my ballot. Bless this work of my hands. And bless all our ballots for the good of our nation. Amen.

If you are of voting age, find out where you can look up​​ and verify​ that your vote was counted. If you are under voting age, research the campaign​​ to lower the voting age​ to 16, and debate the arguments for and against.

Whose wellbeing or future do you care most about? On whose behalf are you voting? Choose a group or individual to dedicate your vote to, and post on social media, "I am voting because of [Name], so that they may have [Needs]."

Think of a friend or family member who always votes differently than you. Pick an issue you know they are passionate about and ask them to tell you why. Listen without interruption for two minutes and then thank them.​

Call up an elder in your life whom you admire. Ask them to tell you the stories of when they first voted, and how and why they made voting a lifelong habit. Study the issues from a nonpartisan voting guide, and make plans to cast your ballots together.​

When you feel frightened or overwhelmed, get in your car or lie down. Picture God's love as a warm, fuzzy blanket covering every part of you. Take a moment to bask in the warmth of God's love and know that you are safe.

Have you ever won a sports match or a board game? What is your favorite way to celebrate? Do you have a victory dance you do when you're happy? Picture a great outcome to this election and boost your own confidence.

If you were on the ballot, Jesus, I confess I might be scared to vote for you. Your love demands so much, and I am small. So today I offer you my heart: inscribe there the truth of your love. I offer you my mind: bathe my thoughts in wisdom ever ancient, ever new. I offer you my will: bend it, shape it into your heart’s desire. I offer you my vote: may it turn out to be a good decision, and hasten your great reign over all our lives. Take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of justice. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.​​ (Ephesians 6:13-17)

Adam and Eve lived through a time of great transition when they left the Garden of Eden. God did not send them out naked, but made clothes and tools for them to survive. What gifts of strength do you carry from your ancestors?

This year's election night results may be close, confused, delayed, or challenged. When all else fails, a few deep breaths can help you calm your nervous system. Get ready to sleep and recharge for another day.​
