Supporting local businesses

Allenton Big Local has recently provided support for local company Ethiprint as part of the Big Local Priority 3 activity Creating Opportunities for Training and Employment. Ethiprint received £3,000 worth of funding towards the cost of training one of its employees in machine printing.

Ethiprint, which is based on Sandown Road, is a printer and leading provider of medi cal, healthcare and cosm etics packaging. Employee John Selvli (pictured above) completed a City & Guilds NVQ 2 in machine printing through Leicester College. NVQs allow theory to be delive red through training and course materials and the employee is then observed at work after each session. The course covered subjects such as the principles of print and colour, methods of working, and health and safety.

The funding is part of Allenton Big Local's aim of supporting the long term sustainability of local businesses, such as Ethiprint, which are based in the Allenton Big Local area and provide employment opportunities for local residents.

Rhys Evans from Ethiprint said: "We are grateful for the support received from Allenton Big Local to help with John's training to NVQ Level 2 in machine printing. The course has provided the valuable theoretical knowledge to underpin his on-the-job experience.

"This qualification has accelerated John's understanding of the print process and he is now making an important contribution being able to run several presses. This positive outcome means we shall be encouraging other employees to follow John's path."
