Why Community Energy?

In 2017, over 600 people attended the Community Energy Congress in Melbourne. Delegates from the 90+ community energy groups all around Australia shared insights and the models that have delivered community owned projects in every state of Australia.

For example, in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, around $300 million a year is spent on electricity. Enova, the new community owned retailer, estimates it can return as much as $80 million a year locally in the form of profits, jobs, and sourcing local staff and suppliers.

Community energy is being delivered through:

  • Donation based models
  • Investor arrangements
  • Bulk buy initiatives
  • Community leadership and local energy vision
  • Energy program delivery

The aim of this Roadshow is to bring much of the knowledge and experience from the Congress into South Australian towns and suburbs.
