Altcoin: Any crypto-currency other than Bitcoin or Ethereum.
Capitulation: When investors give up any previous gains by selling their positions during periods of declines. A market correction or bear market often leads investors to capitulate or panic sell.
Dollar-cost averaging is an investment technique which involves buying a fixed dollar amount of a particular investment on a regular schedule, regardless of the price. As a result you end up purchasing more when prices are low and fewer shares when prices are high. For example, you could commit to add $500 to your retirement fund every month... or buy $300 worth of crypto every month.
Dump/Dumping: Selling away your coins/Downward price movements due to increase selling pressure.

FIAT is government-issued currency, such as the US dollar, Japanese yen or the Euro.
FOMO: Fear Of Missing Out. This is a rookie mistake where a coin is skyrocketing and you get the feeling it’s gonna pump more, so you buy at the peak (like many did in bitcoins ascent in 2017)
JOMO: Joy Of Missing Out. Opposite of FOMO. You can’t make every investment, so once you make a decision to invest, don’t regret not making other investments.
Limit order / limit buy / limit sell. Orders placed on an exchange to buy or sell a crypto-currency when the price meets a certain amount.
Dead Cat Bounce: A temporary recovery in prices after a huge decrease
HODL: a misspelling of “hold”, means to not sell your cryptocurrencies; alternatively described as meaning Hold On for Dear Life;
ICO. Initial Coin Offering, somewhat similar to an IPO in the non-crypto world. Startups issue their own token in exchange for ether. This is essentially crowdfunding on the ethereum platform.
Market cap: the total value of a cryptocurrency network, calculated by multiplying the total supply of coins by the current price of an individual unit.

Margin trading: an act of ‘magnifying’ the intensity of your trades by risking your existing coins, often equated to gambling, and forbidden on many exchanges;
Mining: the process of trying to ‘solve’ the next block to obtain an amount of cryptocurrency. In many cases it requires huge amounts of computer processing power
Public key / private key. A cryptographic code that allows a user to receive cryptocurrencies into an account. The public key is made available to everyone via a publicly accessible directory, and the private key remains confidential to its respective owner. Because the key pair is mathematically related, whatever is encrypted with a public key may only be decrypted by its corresponding private key.
Pump & Dump: Price manipulation by whales or collectives. The most famous group is the Palm Beach pump and dump group. Stay clear.
Rekt is a slang version of "wrecked" that refers to losing a lot of your money.
Sidechains are emerging mechanisms that allow tokens and other digital assets from one blockchain to be securely used in a separate blockchain and then be moved back to the original blockchain if needed.
TA: Technical Analysis, or the analysis of prices based on historical price movements and fancy indicators
Tokens - Refers to the ‘currency’ of projects built on the ethereum network that have raised money via issuing their own tokens. Examples:
0x – ZRX REP – Augur BAT – Basic Attention Token ICN – Iconomi
Shilling / pumping. Someone essentially advertising another crypto-currency. If a coin is promised to cure cancer or be the second coming of Jesus, it’s being shilled.
Stable coin. A crypto-currency with extremely low volatility that can be used to trade against the overall market.
Wallet: storage of 'keys', or codes, needed to access and use one’s coins. There are online (“hot”) wallets and offline (“cold”) wallets;
Whale - someone who own absurd amounts of cryptocurrency.
